Daniel, I strongly recommend coordinating with the Debian Mono packaging 
team in that case.

They've already dealt with the same issues and have policy and 
infrastructure in place to go from raw upstream to a set of high quality 
packages.

I'm sure they'd welcome you and give some tips if you approach 
constructively.
