[Mono-dev] embedded app

I'm having difficulty getting a very trivial embedded app to work. I've been following the wiki http://www.mono-project.com/Embedding_Mono, but haven't had any luck. It looks to me link my call to mono_jit_init doesn't work, but the docs give no indication as how you detect error. I assumed it would return NULL on failure, but it doesn't. No matter what I pass into it, it returns garbage. Anyone have a simple example or pointer where to look?
