Ok. Please note, that this is while debugging the ODBC stack from Mono svn - 
everything from a fresh (nightly) build. I am not sure your explanation 
applies - but thanks.

Additionally: if your explanation do apply - perhaps the message from mdb 
should be slightly more informative?
