I can confirm I had a very similar issue with gmcs in Mono 1.2.4 on
Ubuntu Feisty (sorry I didn't have time to report it at the time). I
had to patch MD to work around it:

However, I can't repro it (now on Gutsy) with a small testcase, so it
may be more complicated than it looks, or an issue with Ubuntu...
