[Mono-dev] Why is sqlite2 default in Mono.Data.SqliteClient?

According to http://www.mono-project.com/SQL_Lite, sqlite2 is the default 
version for new databases being created. Is there any reason why sqlite3 
is not chosen as default? Especially since sqlite2 does not get much 
development anymore and sqlite3 seems far superior. Is this something 
that will change in the near future?
