Is the bytefx driver using the mysql connector library, also, is using
an assembly in .net considered a static linking under GPL?

AFAIK, if you aren't changing the code for the bytefx driver, you
may be able to use it for non-gpl apps?  better asked of a technical or
copyright lawyer.
