I can reproduce your problem locally using an "Xnest -depth 24".  The
fix isn't simple however, and I think will require some extra work in
cairo/pixman internals.. I'll take a look over the weekend.  I also
just created http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=59212 to track
this.
