Does libintl*.dylib exist in /opt/local/lib or anywhere in your system? 
I use fink, and I have all kinds of weird issues when libraries that
ship with mono conflict with those in my fink environment.  Building
programs sometimes is problematic when there are two versions of a
library in the search path.
