Some real data from Mono today:

-rw-r--r-- 1 miguel miguel 1743872 Jul 9 17:18 System.dll
-rw-rw-r-- 1 miguel miguel 15950 Jul 14 19:05 strings
-rw-r--r-- 1 miguel miguel 3593216 Jul 11 22:49 corlib.dll
-rw-rw-r-- 1 miguel miguel 46542 Jul 14 19:05 strings
-rw-r--r-- 1 miguel miguel 470016 Jul 9 17:18 System.Xml.dll
-rw-rw-r-- 1 miguel miguel 30299 Jul 14 19:05 strings

Those probably the most used assemblies in an embedded system, and
we are talking of a grand total of 90k (180k if you use ucs-2) of
embedeed strings.

A large stretch from those 3-megabyte figures.

This is without any hacks: on top of that you could do plenty of
hacks (described previously) to shrink those more.
