Can I ask a really stupid question?

Why is there a version of mono for windows? There is already a perfectly
good implementation of the CLR there.

Certainly porting common UI things is useful (like SWT# or GTK# ) to
allow portability of UI apps given the hassles with SWF. But having 2
runtimes and compilers seems like a waste of time. If you had to pay for
it I would understand, or if it sucked (but it doesn't)

I think such a document would be wonderful.  How about "Developing Mono
on 
Windows" or "Advanced Mono Windows HOWTO" as a working title?
