Hi,

binutils 2.13 (from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/binutils/binutils-2.13.tar.gz) works fine for
me.  Which distribution do you use and did you install the development package (some
distros have binutils and binutils-dev or binutils-devel and you need to install both).

What does your config.log say ?
