n/m, found an even easier fix than the 2 above. Also, verified that it works by
changing my iPad's timezone and then switching back to my test app and it
updated as expected (although it can take up to a full minute to pick up that
the system timezone has changed - but on the bright side, the fix works across
all platforms and the max delay can be tweaked if needed).

BTW, I think my uncle uses Logbook Pro.
