Perhaps it is something on the system that is broken, but everything besides
Mono seems to work just fine.
I also filed issue #681841, which seems to do something different, yet activate
a bug that makes the system crash in a similar way. I am starting to suspect
that it has something to do with string handling in general, and not just
float.ToString().
The testing platform is similar to the one described in #414845, which was
closed because a kernel upgrade fixed the issues. I do have a slightly older
kernel than the one reported working, but a newer fedora core.
Unfortunately I cannot just upgrade the kernel on the affected machines.
If you have suggestions for further debugging these issues I will do my best to
track them down.
Since it seems that the problems are not PPC specific, but rather CELL-BE/FC9
specific, I would not object too much if you closed the issues with a
"Wontfix"/"Worksforme".
