The problem here is that somewhere mono is returning the SRE type instead of
the constructed type. This call fails on MS as well if called on its equivalent
SRE type[1].

I'm looking into ways of figuring out when does this happens, but it's an
uphill battle to figure out what exactly mono is doing that's different from
MS.
