I've realised that the patch I posted on that bug is very easy to modify to
cover the 1.x profile, so I'll just mark that one as DUPE of this one and
propose the full patch. Then after it has been approved&committed, later the
mono team can decide if:

a) Allow or not the backporting of the patch to the mono-2-6 branch.
b) Remove the NET_1_1 part (or just comment it out) in master, in a second
commit.
