You can install a System.dll built against mono-2-6.

I uploaded a tar.gz of System.dll for mono 2.6. You can download it from
http://gonzalo.name/tmp/system.tar.gz

Download that file and do the following (probably as root):
 # tar -xzf system.tar.gz
 # cd system2
 # gacutil -i System.dll

Let me know whether this fixes your problem or not.
