I left a remote debugging session open over night from wednesday night to
thursday morning (stopped at a break point). And thursday morning, I was able
to "step over" the current line and go to the next line just fine. I then hit
"run" and it ran to the end of the program.

So, at least for remote debugging, this bug is gone.
