I tried installing Mono 2.4 (I followed the directions on the Mono site), but
the installation fails at some point. As Mono 2.4 is supported officially in
Karmic, I guess I can wait.

I think the problem is not related to the database thing so I'll try to write
an easy example that doesn't use databases.
