This is fixed in 2.6 and trunk as part of TDS 8 implementation.  Above is a
correct workaround or rather a fix for the mentioned issue with 2.4.x versions.
 I will try to backport independent pieces from TDS 8, to sanely handle locale
specific issues in 2.4.x.
