It should work by using the full pathname to the 'mono' binary - this also
fixed it for me.

My mono is /work/asgard/INSTALL/bin/mono, and I can now invoke
/work/asgard/INSTALL/bin/mdb without having that in my PATH, or setting any
MONO_PATH, MONO_GAC_PREFIX or LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
