This is a runtime regression that has been fixed in trunk.

I don't know which change fixed it, so I'm not very inclined to figure out what
breaks it.

Marcus, do you have to use a 2.4 based release or it's fine for you to wait for
2.6 or use trunk?

Keep in mind even if I backport the fix to 2.4, it will take some time until we
do a 2.4.1 release.
