I'm a bit surer to use retrieved buffer size == 1 than using the buffer
content.

I was also wrong on the assumption that XplatUICarbon does not support multi
byte characters at all. It was all about the default font brokenness. When I
explicitly specify "osaka" (which is the default Mac OS X Japanese) on the
TextBox, it just worked fine.
