I ran into some issues when removing those packages. Removing
vmwware-kmp-default prompted installing another package as if in its place. I
ended up having to manually rmmod the modules even after removing the package
and rebooting. The installer window was helpfully not wide enough to show the
full packages it was installing, so it would say "installing vmware-d...." so
I'm not sure which packages it was. After installing the linux kernel sources
and forcing the vmware tools warning about how the kernel was build with gcc
4.3 but the current compiler was gcc 4.3.1, I did end up getting vmware tools
installed and the mouse is moving outside of the window as expected.
