hostname -f returns "unknown host". This breaks the Monodevelop -> mono

If you try to debug an app, MonoDevelop says:
SocketException: No such host is known

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. type hostname -f
2. notice the error

Actual Results:
mono at linux:~/graffiti> hostname
linux
mono at linux:~/graffiti> hostname -f
hostname: Unknown host
mono at linux:~/graffiti>

Expected Results:
it should return the host name
