We can commit two workarounds for this issue into the 2.4 branch.

It will alleviate the issue a lot. But the long term proper fix will feature in
2.6.

Paolo, are you ok with 2.4 receiving the two work-arounds proposed by me and
Mark to the 2.4 branch while following with the proper fix on trunk?
