I replaced gcc 3.4.5 (which works) with 4.2.1 (which doesn't) and here are the
precise errors for the three places:

./../libgc/misc.c:483: error: lvalue required as left operand of assignment

./../../mono/metadata/image.c:1255: error: lvalue required as increment
operand
./../../mono/metadata/image.c:1260: error: lvalue required as increment
operand

(483 is correct - the 479 in the initial report was a mistake reading the diff,
which differs by 3-4 lines, of course)
