Probably this time you are using a different version, or something is weird on
your system, I don't know - deleting using both backspace and delete is working
and fixed, even if not backported to 2.4 (yet). 

With the "text" + "none" test, I get it working just fine (no press of the
Insert key). 

Lemme know what you get, since it's sort of weird that you can't remove any of
the characters.
