Gonzalo, I don't think this fix should apply to the 1.0 profile. At least, I
get a different result on .NET 1.1 than on 2.0.

NET 1.1 appears to match the original behavior of Mono, except that it never
exits (as the threadpool thread keeps running).

NET 2.0 indeed exits immediately.
