sources : from tarball (tried svn but give the same results)

configure : --prefix=path_to_install in both cases. For the second case, I used
--without-libgif --without-libjpeg --without-libexif --without-libtiff

results of configure:

  glitz:         no (disabled, use --enable-glitz to enable)
  BeOS:          no (disabled, use --enable-beos to enable)
  DirectFB:      no (disabled, use --enable-directfb to enable)

the following font backends:
  FreeType:      yes
  Win32:         no (requires a Win32 platform)
  Quartz:        no (disabled, use --enable-quartz-font to enable)

  PNG functions: no (disabled, use --enable-png to enable)
