Martin,

I don't know about the others, but the software installation for me is done
based on the wiki page that says how to install Mono in parallel with other
systems. It is perfectly reproducible and results in a debugger that isn't
working properly.

You can try to use the script that I have that installs Mono 2.0 into $HOME/opt
(and provides a desktop launcher to open a terminal with an environment
suitable for use with that new installed Mono 2.0). It requires that you
install the build dependencies yourself (I didn't want to tie the script to a
particular distribution of GNU/Linux by making it depend on apt or rpm or
whatever). You can download the script from
http://www.trausch.us/wp-content/uploads/install-mono2.sh

If you can see anything within that script that would create a "weird local
installation problem" I would be happy to correct it. But it _is_ blocking me
from using the debugger, which was the _entire_ reason I wanted to play with
Mono 2.0 in the first place. Obviously the problem is reproducible because I
did not _file_ the bug, and others are experiencing the problem. So, "nobody
else can reproduce [it]" is a crock, sorry.

If you need additional information, feel free to ask for it.

In my case:
  * Ubuntu 8.10 Beta
  * Installed via http://www.trausch.us/wp-content/uploads/install-mono2.sh
script (which I wrote) which behaves based on
http://www.mono-project.com/Parallel_Mono_Environments
