Marek, so your suggestion in to explicitly have 2 code paths, one that works
with 1.2 and another that works on 2.0.

Anil, can you go by compiling against the mono 2.0 binaries and testing against
1.2? This way you don't need to use boatloads of reflection for the 2.0 only
bits.
