Hello Antti,
   Indeed, this feature might be quite useful in some situations. Alas, as it
stands now, the Mono ASP.NET parser inside System.Web interprets client-side
comments as blocks of text to ignore completely. A parser rewrite is planned
after Mono 2.0 release, so that's when this bug will be fixed. Until that time,
you will have to resort to the workaround you mentioned. Thanks for reporting!
