My understanding is that .NET 3.0 = .NET 2.0 + set of new assemblies and .NET
3.5 = .NET 3.0 + set of new assemblies + new backward compatible compiler
features. This is semantically different than relation between .NET 2.0 and
NET 1.1, where assemblies has been updated rather than added.

I agree that version scheme should be consolidated, one way or another.
