Yes, the branching issue has been discussed several times, and Miguel's opinion
is that it has no real benefits. I don't share this opinion but to fix it
everywhere my preference would be to drop SRE and then it's fairly easy to
implement.

I can obviously provide only micro-benchmark but what I found more interesting
is that this method seems to be *very* good candidate for inlining nevertheless
it's not inlined.
