No, it means that other platforms will have to compile mono on their specific
platform and then it will probably work.

The problem is most likely caused by the fact that the libgdi+ in the generic
linux installer is compiled against the SLES 9 libs, which are very old
compared to the libs that are available on the latest Ubuntu. That is causing
some incompatibility.

However, if Mono is compiled specifically for Ubuntu, it will probably work
fine.

You should try the Ubuntu packages here and see if they work better for you:

Or, alternatively, you could compile Mono yourself. Here are the instructions
