I found out why Moonlight (and neither SL) get the mouse down events in that
spot.

There's an "eraser" in the XAML file (can't see it in the UI). It's a rectangle
with a clip region that makes it look a bit like a soap over the hand (but the
two middle fingers are still accessible).
