 I just looked at the stock 10.2 (with mono 1.1.18) and it shows 115
 updates available. The VMs are identical except for mono, so both
 should show the same updates available.

+ok, it seems it was just the VM. I installed a clean VM and upgraded
+directly to 1.2.5-2 and it now shows 115 updates available.
