For the linux installer, I ship rpms from old distros (sles9/suse 9.1 in this
case) in the hopes it will run on many different distros.  That's why it's only
a best effort solution.

(The best way to run mono on fedora7 would be to grab the build service rpms: 

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Mono/Fedora_7/

Still can't think of what would have changed...
