 the crash is gone.  we're not repainting/painting the mdi children
 properly, but going to downgrade this to normal and spend some cycles
 elsewhere.  i need a break from this bug.

+The problem is in RecreateHandle, as it applies to mdi children.  If
+you comment out the RecreateHandle calls in set_MdiParent, things
+proceed mostly normally.
