 I'm going to drop this to minor since it's a mac only issue.  My best
 guess is a window ordering issue where the combo popup is popping up
 behind the form window.  We had similar issues at various times with
 the win32 and X driver on linux.

+I believe it is using DarwinPort's x-server.
