 Please, in both cases, run the command in gdb and get at least a
 backtrace. I have mcs compiling fine on debian/ppc with a 2.4 kernel.
 What is the processor on that machine?

+A gdb backtrace for the monodevelop crash is complicated but I though it
+would be reproducible for everyone using kernel 2.4/i386. Running the
+usual version without debugging symbols, I get:
