 I was also experiencing this (or something similar) in Gentoo, it was
 fixed when I upgraded glibc, which I believe had updated the nptl part

+I've tested it with Fedora Core 1 (glibc-2.3.2-101,
+kernel-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl).

+If I remove the "fix" mcs still crashes, so atm it has not been fixed
+in Fedora. I'll continiously check this, whenever glibc/kernel
+upgrades in Fedora.
