[Gtk-sharp-list] Gtk-sharp build configuration

Here's the problem I have mono-dev installed and now want to install
gtk-sharp GUI from source on Ubuntu LTS, on the  document page
<https://github.com/mono/gtk-sharp>   I am advised to install to where
"mono" is so development won't require extra configuration to find the
needed ".NET" libraries. I have this:

./configure --prefix="pkg-config --variable=prefix mono"

as given on the  document page <https://github.com/mono/gtk-sharp>  . I get
errors when I run it, i am moderately new to compiling apps from source from
the command-line. I need help getting the the right prefix for my gtk-sharp
configuration. My mono install locations are here:

mono: /usr/bin/mono /etc/mono /usr/lib/mono /usr/bin/X11/mono
/usr/share/mono /usr/share/man/man1/mono.1.gz

So what will my ./configure --prefix= be.
