[Gtk-sharp-list] Issue with Mono/GTK# app after threading (NewB)

Where do I begin? :) I was foing a number of things incorrectly, but
mainly I had potential race conditions because I had the notify created
after the thread start (That was dumb on my part!), and some incorrect
updating of the GUI from within the thread which also created some
issues. Francis supplied code which fixed these issues.
