Okay thanks for your reply, 

Then what, IMHO, needs to be done is :

- or a very good converter should be build and the converting should be
possible using build-scripts (like automake). (Maybe this already
exists?)

- or the translation-teams of GNOME should be aware of the (new) format
and/or translation-applications should get support for this format.

...

- or a GetText implementation should be added to Mono :)

ps. I think a convertor -and a easy way to feed all this in
automake-build scripts (configure.in, etc etc) is the way to go
