Looks good.  Please commit, and thanks a bunch for working on this. 
Nice to have someone looking hard at the 2.0 text widget. 

BTW, I will be on vacation for the rest of this week, so feel free to
commit followup patches.  Please send a copy to the list and I'll catch
up on email on Sunday/Monday.
