I'm Peter Kellner originally from New York but now Northern California (speaking at the NYC code camp in a couple weeks). When I started working on the Microsoft stack about 9 years ago, I did so by going to a dozen or so code camps. Realizing there was none in my area, I started Silicon Valley Code Camp. 31 days from now we have our 8th event and expect well over 2000 attendees. I'm feeling a little bad at the moment because we are days away from making our schedule and we have nothing Xamarin related (http://www.siliconvalley-codecamp.com/Session/2013).
I have three criteria for working with a new technology. 1) It needs to solve some problem that really bugs me; 2) It must make solving the problem fun; 3) The people involved in the technology (usually both core and community) need to be very fun. Xamarin hits all 3! Though I don't know Xamarin well (yet), I'm anxious to learn more. Initially I'll be more of a conduit I hope to become more active as an evangelizer as time goes on.
Oh yeah, in my free time (sadly not much right now), I love riding bikes. Taking away from that are making Pluralsight Videos, consulting gigs when I get them and of course general Microsoft MVP stuff like speaking at events, blogging and lately a complete overhaul of our code camp web site as well as building an HTML mobile version of it svcc.mobi (hopefully xamarin one day).
Thanks Joseph for starting this.
