Version 4.156.0 (Unreleased)

Runtime and platform updates

Highlights

SkiaSharp 4.156.0 improves runtime efficiency and updates native support across Apple, Android, Linux, and WebGPU. Apple deployment targets have advanced, Android texture rendering follows display refresh, and native packaging is more reliable for Linux text shaping and WebGPU consumers.

Platform

  • Apple deployment baselines advanced — Apple-targeted packages now require newer operating-system deployment targets. Update application deployment settings before adopting this release. (#5383)
  • WebGPU native implementation packaged with SkiaSharp — The native library now includes emdawnwebgpu's webgpu.cpp implementation, so consumers using WebGPU have the required code in the bundled SkiaSharp artifact. — ❤️ @ramezgerges (#5316)
  • Linux HarfBuzz binding resolution localized — Linux packages bind bundled HarfBuzz functions locally, avoiding dependence on externally resolved HarfBuzz symbols when using the shipped native assets. — ❤️ @VirgilMing (#5352)

Bug Fixes

  • Android texture rendering synchronized to display refresh — Texture rendering now follows the display refresh cadence, improving frame presentation for Android applications. (#5345)

Lifecycle & Internals

  • Stream data retention corrected — Front-buffered streams no longer retain backing data longer than needed, reducing avoidable memory retention in stream-based workloads. (#5327)
  • Image and text shaping allocations reduced — Managed image pixel copies, HarfBuzz UTF-32 encoding, and feature-string decoding avoid unnecessary allocation work, reducing overhead in frequently used image and text operations. (#5052, #5060, #5230)
